Romanian Society for Byzantine Studies

Established in 1962

The Romanian Society for Byzantine Studies has a long tradition that goes back to the polymath and prolific historian Nicolae Iorga (the organizer of the First International Congress of Byzantine Studies, Bucharest 1924), and has gathered illustrious scholars of Byzantium, including Nicolae Bănescu, Vasile Grecu, Alexandru Elian, Nicolae-Șerban Tanașoca, and Emilian Popescu.
